Arrival and First Swim
Land at Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) and take a taxi to your hotel. Aruba taxis run on fixed flat rates, not meters, so you'll know the fare before you get in: expect $41 to Palm Beach or $26 to Oranjestad for up to four passengers. Check in, change, and don't overplan the first few hours.
Settle in with an easy walk along Palm Beach or Eagle Beach, depending on where you're staying (see our Eagle Beach vs Palm Beach guide if you haven't picked yet). Palm Beach is the calm, reliably flat side; Eagle Beach slopes into the water more steeply and can pick up some chop on windy days, though both are mild by Caribbean standards. If you're on the Palm Beach side, this is also the moment to scope out watersports concessions for later in the week.
Aruba's beaches are public (only two private islands are the exception), and you can sit under any unoccupied palapa, even one in front of a resort; the loungers themselves usually belong to the hotels, so rent a chair if you need one. Then do nothing in particular. It's a travel day; let it be one.
Keep dinner easy on night one. If you're staying on Palm Beach, Casa Tua Pizzeria in Arawak Garden is a low-effort option a short walk from most hotels, and Fisherman's Hut covers seafood without leaving the strip. On the Eagle Beach side, Passions on the Beach covers dinner steps from your hotel. Save downtown Oranjestad for later in the week.
Early night recommended. Tomorrow starts earlier than the rest of the week.
Casual dinner near your hotel: Casa Tua Pizzeria (Arawak Garden) or Fisherman's Hut on Palm Beach, or Passions on the Beach if you're based on Eagle Beach.
