Oranjestad Streetcar

The Oranjestad Streetcar is a free, electric trolley that runs a loop through the heart of the capital, Oranjestad, and has become one of the most charming ways to see the city. Modelled on classic open-sided trams, the cars are solar-powered and glide quietly along Main Street and the surrounding lanes, linking the cruise terminal with the shops, restaurants, and historic core.

There are both single-deck and double-deck cars, and riding the upper deck gives a fine breezy view over the pastel Dutch-colonial facades of the centre. The route passes close to the capital's main sights, including Fort Zoutman and Wilhelmina Park, so it doubles as an easy sightseeing tour as well as a way to get around.

How it works

The trolley is completely free to ride, with stops marked along the loop, and it is a pleasant way to rest your feet between shops in the heat of the day. The pedestrianised Main Street it serves is the focus of the capital's shopping and dining, so the streetcar makes a natural spine for a day in town.
