Sheltered tidal pool deep in Arikok National Park
The Natural Pool, known locally as Conchi or Cura di Tortuga, is one of Aruba's most prized hidden spots, tucked into the wild windward coast inside Arikok National Park. A horseshoe of volcanic rock encloses a calm, clear pool right beside the open Atlantic, so you can float and snorkel in sheltered water while the surf explodes against the rocks just feet away.
Getting there is half the adventure. The pool lies deep in the park, far from Santa Cruz and the resort areas, reachable only by rugged 4x4 over rough tracks, on horseback, or on a demanding hike across the cactus-studded terrain. Because of this, most visitors come on a guided jeep safari or organised tour that handles the difficult access.
Inside the rock ring the water is usually calm and good for a dip, but conditions depend on the swell, and the surrounding sea is strong. When the Atlantic is rough the pool can be closed for safety. It is a memorable swim in a dramatic setting unlike anywhere on the calm leeward side near Mangel Halto.
Come with a guide or tour for the access and safety, check that the pool is open before setting out, and bring water, sturdy footwear, and reef-safe sunscreen.

Usually, yes. A ring of volcanic rock shelters a calm, clear pool beside the open Atlantic, good for a dip and snorkelling. But conditions depend on the swell, and the pool closes for safety when the surrounding sea is rough.
The pool sits inside Arikok National Park, so the park entry fee applies. Guided tours that include transport over the rough terrain carry their own cost on top of that.
Bring water, sturdy footwear, reef-safe sunscreen, and a towel. Check that the pool is open before setting out, as rough seas can close it, and confirm transport, since ordinary cars cannot reach it.
