4x4 to the Natural Pool and wild coast
Ride a 4x4 deep into Arikok National Park, which covers about 18% of Aruba, to reach the Natural Pool (Conchi), wild windward beaches, desert cactus, caves, and rugged volcanic coast.
Arikok National Park protects roughly 18% of Aruba, a wild stretch of the island's rugged eastern and northern interior that ordinary cars cannot cross. A guided 4x4 jeep safari is the way in, bouncing along rough volcanic tracks past towering cactus, divi-divi trees bent by the trade winds, and dramatic windward cliffs pounded by surf. It is a different Aruba from the calm resort beaches, raw and desert-dry.
The highlight for most riders is the Natural Pool, known locally as Conchi, a sheltered basin of clear water rimmed by volcanic rock where the wild Atlantic swell breaks just outside. The route also reaches secluded windward beaches, limestone caves with Arawak rock drawings, and old gold-mill ruins. Because the terrain is harsh and the park rules are strict, going with a guided convoy keeps you safe and on permitted tracks.
Wear closed shoes and bring swimwear, water, and sun protection; the park has little shade and rough ground. Park entry is required, the Natural Pool can close in heavy swell, and a guided tour handles permits and the demanding driving for you.
